Your responsibilities

Junior Metallurgical Engineer

Qualifications

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or similar degree (required). Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Working towards an advanced degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering (preferred).

With the direction and assistance of the Metallurgical Lab Group Leader, you will assist with the following responsibilities:

  • Follow practices that improve efficiency, quality, yield, and productivity.
  • Provide metallurgical and technical expertise to achieve defined customer specifications.
  • Provide technical assistance to and work closely with customers, engineering, management, and operators.
  • Understand and apply metallurgical concepts, standards, and specifications.
  • Follow critical operating parameters for all metallurgical production processes such as heat- treating, gas-nitro carburizing, salt bath nitro carburizing, phosphate coating etc. for hydraulic components.
  • Follow procedures or instructions for production equipment used by customers and Metallurgical Laboratory for destructive and non-destructive tests and inspections.
  • Evaluates equipment and process problems and implements corrective actions to resolve production problems.
  • Understand and coordinate Metallurgical Laboratory functions and interactions with other departments and assures operational efficiency and professionalism.
  • Advises production and quality departments of the proper and necessary records to be maintained for all metallurgical related operations.
  • Responsible to maintain the Quality documentation and the Quality records in the Metal lab.
  • Monitors and maintains the Supplier Quality control relationship.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production Operations in the development of Process FMEA's, Process Control Plans, Measurement System Analyses, and Process Capability Methods & Requirements.
  • Lead structured team problem solving efforts (Six-Sigma, 8D, and Corrective/Preventive Action Reports) to resolve customer complaints and internal production issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and lean departments to improve manufacturing processes and develop methods to eliminate quality issues.
  • Leads the decision making process for the Material Review Board and Special process review for metallurgical related issues.
  • Customer representative for quality issues and metallurgical subjects with internal and external customers.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Sets MPI and other NDT standards for inspection and operator qualifications.
